there's a small, smoothed, stone that sits on my nightstand; black and gray, mottled with bits of mineral, shiny and silver. i found it one day on the sand along a river in the desert. the day was clear and the heat was heavy, the sound of gently lapping water soothing to the soul. laughter caressed the senses. the superstitious would call the fragment a lodestone; a touchstone, or perhaps a talisman, for to touch it takes the bearer back to the time of its finding. i just call it peace.

dear Chief Asshat Lanier:

you're a public servant of the people. you and your department are public servants of the community. you are bound by law to uphold law. the public has a RIGHT to demand and ensure that you and your department are upholding that law correctly. calling "coward" people who are watchdogging you....not cool. also? i'm sorry, but what exactly do you have to hide? if nothing, then may i suggest you suck.it.the.fuck.up.

my fave bits:
That has irked D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier, who promised her officers would pick up their game to counteract the devices, which can also help drivers dodge sobriety checkpoints.

the Supremes have already ruled that checkpoints are only legal when citizens are publicly informed ahead of time, and also have alternate routes available to them. oh, that wacky 5th Amendment.

"I think that's the whole point of this program," she told The Examiner. "It's designed to circumvent law enforcement -- law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives."

here's a thought: get off your moral high horse. i've been on the inside of the job. i was privy to conversations with a DA's office about the creation of a red light program. has it reduced accidents in the installed intersections? you bet. but you know what it's also done? garnered lots and lots of revenue. which is fine, honestly - departments have to have operating capital inflow somehow - but that also means that you have no moral high ground there, byeotch.

need more money now? have a fucking bake sale.

no love whatsoever,

me.

oh, Mark Stern. you adorable, wise man.

[Q:] What was worse: rebranding, or canceling Stargate Atlantis?

[A:] Canceling Farscape. Which, by the way, I had nothing to do with. That was my first day at the job and all of a sudden it was, "Mark's cancelled Farscape." No, I didn't. I love Farscape!

question for peoples smarter than me:

i see Comic Con announcing programming in Rooms 6BCF. anyone that's attended with any regularity knows that the room structure was 6BCDEF, or, 6CDEF.

last time i checked the alphabet, the letters D and E precede the letter F and follow the letter B...as in, they're in the middle. right?

sooooooooooooo, how can they have programming in F, that's also in B and C but not in D and E, which are, you know, right in the middle of the room?

the roomie posited that perhaps, finally, CC is live streaming in satellite "viewing" rooms - something i have bitched about for years...and by "bitched" i mean, not just whined aloud but also sent polite emails every single year to the staff.

i can't hold my breath for that as the reason, but it *is* the only thing that makes any sort of sense.

thoughts?

defense chief looks into making don't-ask-don't-tell-more-humane.

well, just off the top of my head, getting *rid* of don't-ask-don't-tell would make don't-ask-don't-tell more humane.

there's a wacky thought.
